Suzanne Carreker and her colleagues studied the knowledge gains of 126 teachers in two workshop delivery modes (onsite and online) for professional development in spelling instruction. The results suggested that teachers learned equally well in both modes. Online workshops can be more convenient and flexible than onsite workshops and the professionals' knowledge gains appear similar. (See page 9 of the Neuhaus Education Center Research Guide. )
